It was a gorgeous day at Surprise Stadium, an intimate venue to watch a baseball game. “Cooler” temps today, in the low ’90s. and most of the seats in the shade. In fact, only the ballplayers and ballplaying statues were exposed to the sunlight by choice or design.
And speaking of surprise, my intuition from yesterday was correct. Desert Dogs’ manager Shawn Williams improbably inserted Zach Green into the lineup again, playing 1B today, undoubtedly in my mind because Dad was still in town and Shawn has a soft spot for baseball family.
Getting on based twice today in four trips to the plate (a single and HBP), Zach handled himself well around the first base bag.
Miriam and I ducked a couple of foul ball rockets over our heads in Row 1, but held on to a souvenir from Zach that he graciously signed for us, adding his name next to Jesse Green who taught him how to play the game.
What greater pleasure is there than parents being able to watch their child pursue his dreams? Safe flight home, Greens, and hope to see you in Clearwater this Spring!
