Kayla’s Basketball Career Continues

It was a joy to watch our granddaughter Kayla play basketball last night, leapfrogging the JV as a 9th grader and having a signifiant role already on the varsity squard of Bruriah – the private high school that is part of the Jewish Education Center complex in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

Kayla is a forward who uses her size and athleticism to position herself well for rebounds and defense, and can make a shot when the opportunity presents itself.  Organized sports is such a wonderful vehicle through which a teenager can develop confidence and maturity – a type of physical intelligence that Kayla continues to master, complementing the rest of her intellect.  The Bruriah team played cohesively after a sluggish start, to best the girls from Kushner Academy 47-38 (yes, the Academy named after the family that now has ties to the President-Elect).  And thanks to Kayla wearing bright neon orange and black Nike sneakers, #42 was easy to spot on the court!
