The Sage of Scottsdale

He sits on his perch in his red & black plaid hunting jacket outside of Starbucks, engaging unsuspecting passersby in any topic that will do.  He’s an expert on nothing and on everything, depending on whether he’s in his own mind or yours.  He’ll periodically drift inside to use the rest room or refill his water or ice, the liquid of choice when there is a price to be paid for other beverages.  Early in the morning, when still in red & black plaid hunting pajama bottoms not quite matching the jacket, he’ll unload a belch loud enough to blow the foam off a young girls’ latte and then look around with a bemused smirk before uttering: “Yeh, so it’s a good thing nobody’s ever done something like that before”.  He’s the Sage of Starbucks; the Mayor of Mayo Boulevard.  The homeless in all their guises are simply more sophisticated in Scottsdale, but no less worthy or our empathy.
