Phillies fans were out strutting their stuff, including a Frenchy’s T-shirt, on a gorgeous fall afternoon at Camelback Ranch Stadium, home of our now 8-10 Glendale Desert Dogs after dropping a 1-0 contest played in the zippy time of 2:03 in front of the posted crowd of 410.
Phillies fans don’t do much smiling these days …
… but one reason to smile today was the performance of starting pitcher Yacksel Rios. The kid pitched a masterful four innings, and from the chatter in the dugout he’s impressing the people here he needs to impress. Very smooth delivery, economy of motion, sneaky stuff, and great movement and location. Looks ready to make the move from Clearwater to Reading, and may show up in Spring Training.
Yacksel’s battery mate was Reese McGuire, a nice Pirates’ prospect I mentioned the other day whose play has earned him a berth in the Fall Stars game.
