Alan Turing: The Enigma

Picked up the paperback of Andrew Hodges’ magnificent work on Alan Turing at BookTowne — what a tome!

Turning Book

As proclaimed on its front cover, the book inspired the movie The Imitation Game, and the flick was equally well done, starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Alan Turing.  I’m not the first one to suggest that Cumberbatch channeled his inner Bill Nye the Science Guy for the role.

Two years ago someone posted this picture on Imgur of a younger Bill Nye partying with his mom.

Bill Nye in 1980s

It’s fair to conjecture that Bill Nye has a touch of Asperger’s, and that Turing would have worn the Aspie label proudly.  Bill is an interesting gentleman, and I still relish the time I spent on set with him a couple of years ago doing Back-to-School promos for the American Optometric Association (see here).

I’m not the only one who’s a big Bill Nye fan.  Take a look a this touching story about a Superfan on the Autistic Spectrum getting to meet his idol.

In one sense or another we’re all a bit of an enigma, aren’t we.
