While still sifting through boxes, Miriam came across a Playbill of this brilliant play by David Auburn we saw on Broadway circa 2000-2001. There is precious little about the play itself in the Playbill, but as I went online to revisit it I was reminded of how powerful it was. If you can make it through the interview, here is some great insight into the mind of the playwright, David Auburn, a 1991 graduate of the University of Chicago. And if you were to make a movie of the play, which was done in 2005, who would you cast in the role of the brilliant, eccentric, mathematical mind of the central character? Why none other than the incomparable Sir Anthony Hopkins, of whom you can get a glimpse in this movie trailer.
Whether you have the chance to see the play, which still pops up in small, local theater venues or college campus plays – or decide to view the movie – you won’t be disappointed.
