The Million Dollar Arm

Saw the movie, and it’s quite entertaining, even if you’re not crazy about baseball.  Dinesh Patel and Rinku Singh were signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates after winning a contest in India called The Million Dollar Arm.

Dinesh was released by the Pirates in 2010, and went back to India.  Rinku, as a left-handed pitcher, had more success.  And lefties are always given more slack as late bloomers in pitching.  So the Pirates have hung in there with him, despite the fact that he needed Tommy John surgery and missed all of 2013 rehabbing.

Nice interview here with Rinku and the baseball agent who dreamed up The Million Dollar Arm pursuit in the first place, J.B. Bernstein.

… and the official trailer of the movie, with a thin slice of Alan Arkin deadpanning as the old school scout.
