Oh the weather outside is frightful, but the fans are so delightful, and since we’re in first you know — let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
An instant classic! One for the ages. Roll out all the trite phrases because this game really was an epic battle between two first place teams trying to put some distance between themselves and a .500 record. It was the Eagles rising to 8-5 while the Lions slipped to 7-6, and it sure didn’t look that way in the first half. Trailing 14-0 at the half, the Eagles clawed back in the second half to tie it at 14, only to have Jeremy Ross return the ensuing kickoff 98 yards for a TD and, as one dainty Philly Phan opines at the 1:00 mark of this video: “Are you f-in’ kiddin’ me?”
When you think about it, this is one game in which it would have been very interesting seeing a healthy Michael Vick at QB, keeping the defense off-guard in trying to figure out whether Vick or McCoy would carry the ball. But this is Foles’ team now, and he found his passing touch just in the nick of time in the second half to keep the defense guessing. And oh what a 4th quarter McCoy had, breaking the Eagles all-time single game rushing record held by Steven Van Buren, established in 1949.
You can read all about it on line, and the impressive victory sets up a Chicago – Dallas matchup on MNF finding the Boys trying to keep pace with our Iggles. If they do, we’ll still be on pace for a significant last game of the regular season, in which the Boys play the Birds in Dallas. How long ago the shaky start seems for the Eagles, building confidence each week, as it is Dallas that’s now trying to keep up with the Joneses. Here, courtesy of Elliot Press, are some 1st quarter screen shots from today’s Fox broadcast of a snow bowl that will long be remembered by Phila’elphia fans.
