Starting this Tuesday, for the final week of Arizona Fall League play, MLB will start to experiment with the use of instant replay. We’ll miss it, though, needing to head back to the East Coast tomorrow. Yesterday was another gorgeous Arizona fall day, in which we got to take in the Javelinas as the visiting club at Mesa’s Hohokam stadium. I won’t say much about the stadium itself, having previously written about it here.
Something new I did notice yesterday, as we sat on the front row of the first base line (still love being able to move around and sit anywhere, though the “crowd” was bigger today than usual) was that the tarp was tattered presumably due to lunging spikes taking their toll. But my guess is that since it hardly ever rains here, they’re not in any rush to replace the tarp.
Hungry for News and Stats on Jews with Bats? You’re in luck, as yesterday I got an up close and personal look at the Angels’ Zach Borenstein playing for Mesa, which sent me hunting on the Internet to turn up this lovely coverage.
Safe to say that his stats won’t get Zach into the Fall Star League starting lineup (nor will any of the Phil’s reps on the Javelinas), but it’s always good to see members of the Tribe striving to make it. And on that note, some pleasant scenes from around Hohokam Stadium yesterday.
