You know what a big deal Big Joe’s Semifinal Talent Show is if you read about it here last year. The judges were back in place for the this year’s semis, featuring Robert John, pictured here in his Yankees hat. I hadn’t realized until I checked Wiki that his 1972 cover of The Lion Sleeps Tonight made it to #3 on the charts and sold over a million copies. Nice to see Robert and the other judges volunteer their time to assess the talent. Tonight’s lineup included the usual assortment of singers and keyboarders, but also a talented array of break dancers, Irish step dancers, father and daughter guitar duo, kicked off by Big Joe and a 22 year-old pianist doing Elton John’s Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters, followed by sons of bankers and daughters of lawyers, turning around and saying good morning to the night (it’s in the Elton John lyrics who, by the way, is not related to Robert John).
