Spring Training Has Sprung

Got my new Nikon camera with me, but I’m no match for the professional photographer you see here with three serious cameras in tow.  I did shoot quite a bit with the Nikon 5100, but for the first taste of spring training here are some shots from my good ol’ iPhone camera including some requisite views of  of Clearwater Beach.  Time March-es on.

Here’s the front cover of the first program of the 2012 season.  Nice touch to overlay Hunter Pence on a view of Clearwater Beach and the Gulf of Mexico.  After last year’s four aces covers, the spotlight this year is more on hitting than pitching, particularly with Ryan Howard out indefinitely and other key stars (Utley & Polanco) looking more like they’re preparing for retirement than some of the Floridians at the game.

Here’s the Phanatic, helping to welcome in the Spring in Clearwater, feisty as ever!

Here’s a gentleman who seems to have unkind feelings toward the New York ballclub.  I hope you don’t find this offensive – it’s merely emblematic of the “Yo, take this” addy-tude of Philly fans finally comfortable in giving it back to the Yankee fans who are no picnic in their home stadium when us outsiders show up rooting for our Phils.  Lots of new T-shirts this year roaming the stadium.  With the popularity of the Phillies comes expanded areas selling more fan merchandise than ever.  Not a bad idea, as the lines to get into the main store were growing to be outrageous. Phils open the 2012 ST season playing the Yanks three consecutive games, and many are once again presuming these two teams are the favorites to meet in October.  But hey, Yogi – that’s why they play the games!
