Ever have a nagging feeling that you’ve left something important behind? We’ve begun the process of shipping some things ahead for our stay on Clearwater Beach. Invariably we pack too much, but we’ve come to feel like it’s a home away from home. Would we enjoy it as much if the Phillies didn’t make it their Spring Training home? I doubt it. Nor are we alone.
Former Philadelphia mayor and Governor of Pennsylvania, Ed Rendell, feels the same way. That’s one of the beautiful things about spring training. When I first started going in 1993, you could hear a pin drop during the games. It was largely the backyard province of the retirees who had relocated South. Now it has become the province of fans of all ages, revisiting old memories, and creating new ones.
