Penn State Makes the Right Decision

Despite the mob mentality of students who have begun to forcefully protest ex-coach Joe Paterno’s firing tonight, the University made the right decision.  In firing Paterno and ex-President Spanier, the Board indicated that it wanted to restore the honesty, integrity and highest moral standards of the institution.  For college football sports fans it is painful to see someone who was the face of honesty, integrity and high moral standards to be so unceremoniously dumped for his failings, but because he did not grasp the gravity of ex-coach Jerry Sandusky’s preying on young boys under the cover of the University, there was no choice but to make a very strong statement about this failure.  The students in their youthful exuberance and naivete are directing their anger toward the media and the board of trustees tonight.  Hopefully their indignation will be re-directed to the seriousness of young lives interrupted rather than concern over preserving the legend of Joe Pa’s football factory.
