I blogged about the Big Joe Talent Show last September, and tonight we sat in on our first show of the Summer 2011 season. Big Joe is self-effacing about his size, and he rips off joke after joke as fillers in between contestants, my favorite tonight being: “I’ve been on a diet for three weeks and I’m pleased to report that I’ve lost 21 days”.

Joe was up there with a cane tonight and didn’t get out of his chair.  He shared with the crowd that he would be having knee surgery next week, so no Big Joe on July 3rd, but he is expected back for action on Sunday PMs at Jenkinson’s for the rest of the summer.  The winner of the last age group tonight was a 13 year old kid from East Orange who sang “The Lion Sleeps Tonight”, with some slick choreographed moves and his own version of Awimbawe.

Our best wishes to Joe Henry for a successful surgical outcome, and the good health to continue his unique Jersey Shore Amateur Shows.  As Big Joe was literally carted from the sand at the edge of the stage and off the boardwalk, the sun bid adieu to Little Silver Lake in all its majestic magenta.
