Celebrating Israel Multifold

As it turned out, I celebrated Israel at least twofold yesterday.  One was a planned visit with my father (Israel) and stepmother (Fay) in Queens.  By happenstance they were watching the Celebrate Israel Parade broadcast live for the first time on New York’s Fox station Channel 9.  One of the interviewees was Michael Miller, executive vice president and CEO of the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York, which organizes the parade.  My father (91 years old, may he live and be well) still sharper than a tack, pointed out that Michael’s father was Rabbi Israel Miller, who we recalled fondly.  My mother hailed from Baltimore, as did Israel Miller, and when I arrived at Yeshiva University as an undergraduate student he was an administrator who provided a warm connection.

So here’s to you, Israel, from one Israel to another …
